In a shocking development on Friday, a ‘shooting incident’ took place. This action was reported to have unfolded at the Guaranteed Rate Field, the home stadium of the Chicago White Sox. The Chicago Police are said to have launched an investigation into this matter.
As per reports from the Chicago-Sun Times, at least two people were left injured in this scene. One of them has been taken to a local media facility and has been hospitalized. Fortunately, the event did not cause any widespread mass movement and panic.
The scene is also reported to have taken place at the game between the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland Athletics. The visitors would go on to win the game by a score of 12-4. Before the match, the club had announced a post-game 90s concert featuring the likes of Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, and Tone Loc. The White Sox would make a statement saying that there were some “technical issues” that led to the cancelation of the program.
Chicago White Sox issue statement regarding shooting at stadium
The actions that took center stage last night have given worrying signs to the MLB. The Police are still uncertain about where the bullets were fired in the first place. This has led to several questions being raised on the safety and security measures at ballparks and other outdoor places across the United States. The White Sox later issued a statement regarding the incident.
“Two fans attending Friday’s game suffered non-life threatening injuries after being struck by bullets. It is unclear to investigators whether the shots were fired from outside or inside the ballpark,” the statement read. It further mentioned how the case is still being probed by experts from the Chicago PD. “The White Sox are thinking of the victims at this time and wishing them a speedy recovery,” the statement concluded.
This horrific incident comes at a time when the White Sox are going through one of their worst seasons. They have lost two games in a row and could get swept by the Oakland Athletics if they fail to win on Saturday.
Recently the team was blasted by former players and experts. White Sox talk podcast crew member Scott Podsednik claimed that the team has no standard set and should be held accountable. This came after the surprising comment from Eloy Jimenez where he replied “Not really” on being asked if there are players who could become leaders in the clubhouse.
