“There’s more consistency”: Chris Woodward makes brutally honest admission on Leody Tavernas’ development
Chris Woodward on Leody Tavernas
Leody Tavernas had a lot of expectations bundled upon his shoulder when he made his way into the major league, but unfortunately his bat was never able to fulfil those. However, the Rangers recalled him on June 13th with the idea of making him remain in the major league for good. Especially knowing that Tavernas had one more minor option available, Rangers were adamant upon not using that.
Safe to say, Leody Tavernas is currently in his best form of career, swinging the bat better than he has had at any point in the past two years in the majors. So when manager Chris Woodward was enquired about the same, the Rangers manager could not help but acknowledge the massive improvement of the 23-year-old.
“The swing itself [and] some of the adjustments he’s made on the swing are better,” Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. “There’s more consistency in his path [and] there are some improvements there.”
Can Leody Tavernas finally make it ‘BIG’ in the major league?
“As long as Leody’s on time, I feel like his path allows him to be on time. [Leody Taveras] can adjust to different pitches, he can be on time for the fastball, and put some damage to the middle of the field, [and] he can stay in the strike zone better,” Woodward added.
“He looks more calm [and] confident,” Woodard elaborated. “When you feel like you’re going to hit, you have a natural presence about yourself when standing in the batter’s box, and that’s where he’s at right now.”
Having said that there are multiple theories suggesting that Leody Tavernas wanted to produce results as soon as he was called overboard, as a result of which he tries to press the plate often. But having matured enough to read and understand the game situation better, Leody does have the potential of making a name for himself against the big boys
“I’m a lot more confident. Honestly, I have been here before, so now I feel more confident.” What Leody Tavernas continues to work on is consistency. “That’s all about baseball, is be consistent,” Leody Tavernas said. “That’s what I’m trying to do. Make it simple, like my routine and everything, and make it a simple plan to go there and be more consistent every day.”
