If there is one thing every professional wants, it is to create history. Some do it with their exceptional skills while some are unfortunate to end on the wrong side of it. On Sunday, Corey Seager created history during the second game of the ALDS between the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. He recorded five walks in a single postseason game. This is the first time it has happened in over 1,760 postseason games.

Walk also called base-on-balls (BB) is one of the most important aspects of the sport. A hitter is said to have been walked when a pitcher throws four balls outside the strike zone. When the pitcher collects the fourth ball, the batter automatically proceeds to first base. Seager, who is known to be an aggressive hitter, showed his composure this time around.

His run with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2020 postseason is regarded as one of the best. So perhaps keeping that in mind, the Orioles decided not to take any chances against him.

He would have finished the game with a six-walks had he not swung his bat earlier in the game. The shortstop would finish the match reaching base five times while going 0-for-1 in the game.

Rangers coach Bruce Bochy praises Corey Seager for his performance in Game 2

The Texas Rangers headed into this game with confidence. An important win against the high-flying Baltimore Orioles set the tempo for this game. While the others got to contribute, Corey Seager had to settle with a historic record. His coach Bruce Bochy though has praised him for his performance while taking a commanding lead in the series.

Corey, five walks, you take it. He’s getting on base and that’s what you are trying to do is get the guys on base, put pressure on them, and the guys did a great job of it,” Bochy said after the game. He would later label this batting effort from his side as a “terrific job’.

In total, the Rangers collected eleven walks in the game. So perhaps, Seager was not the only one they had in mind to avoid. Giving up this many walks did put them in trouble though as they ended up losing the second game 11-8.

The Orioles now face the daunting task of turning this tie around. While there have been comebacks from 2-0 down in the division series, they will need to be at their very best to pull it off. One more victory in Texas could see the Rangers sweep the O’s and end their incredible campaign with a damaging defeat.
