“The Daddy Yankee effect”- Twitter goes crazy as Puerto Rican rapper visits White Sox vs Twins game

Daddy Yankee

The Daddy Yankee effect is the only explanation for why all of the Twins’ RBI in their 5-1 victory over the White Sox on Sunday were contributed by Puerto Ricans: Carlos Correa’s two-run home run in the fifth inning and Jose Miranda’s two-run double in the ninth.

“I mean, when you think about it that way,” Miranda mused of the Puerto Rican rapper, who is a worldwide superstar in Spanish music. “It’s pretty cool. He was here, and we did that. So it is fun. Maybe we did it for him.”

With a month left in the season, the victory was necessary, as it is for most teams. The Twins (68-64) had suffered embarrassing losses in the first two games of the series, including a walk-off loss and a very close call on a no-hitter.

They now have a two-game advantage over the 67-67 White Sox in the American League Central after winning on Sunday. Additionally, the Twins and Guardians are once again tied with first place in the division following Cleveland’s 6-3 loss to Seattle in 11 innings.

It’s all because of Daddy Yankee

And it’s all because of Daddy Yankee, who visited Guaranteed Rate Field prior to his concert on Sunday night in the Chicago region. To be fair, Correa did say that the Twins played “clean” and “beautiful all-around” baseball, which also contributed.

The Twins piled up six hits, including Correa’s game-changing home run, against Lucas Giolito on Sunday after managing just one hit against Dylan Cease on Saturday. White Sox were outhit 12-7 by the Twins. The other run, in addition to Correa and Miranda’s efforts, was scored by Max Kepler on a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

Daddy Yankee may have brought luck for the Twins. With 66 pitches and five innings, winning pitcher Dylan Bundy (8-6) threw 71% strikes while allowing just two hits, a walk, and four strikeouts. He kept the White Sox scoreless, and Chicago didn’t even hint at a comeback until Michael Fulmer entered the game in the seventh.
