“It started right around the Hall of Fame,”: Derek Jeter’s ‘The Captain’- a 7-part documentary premieres

Sunday Evening’s The Tribeca Film Festival hosted the premiere of one of the most awaited movies for the New York Yankee fans, ‘The Captain’ featuring Derek Jeter, his life and his Hall of Fame career in a Seven (7) part documentary. This documentary showcases life both on and off the field. The producers of this documentary, Spike Lee and Mike Tolin, decided to debut the series on July 18th following the conclusion of the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on ESPN.

Derek Jeter has won a great deal with the New York Yankees at his time. Five World Series championships, 3,465 hits and 14 All-Star appearances detail a near-perfect route to Cooperstown. Despite such a performance, the younger generation following the sport is unaware of the greatness delivered by Derek Jeter for the New York Yankees. This series is said to unfold various enigmas behind his life.

“I thought, ‘I want to capture this. I want to capture it so I can have it in the future, share it with my girls when they get older, because they probably won’t believe most of my career,’” the great Derek Jeter continued. “It just turned into a bigger project.”

Although Derek Jeter has never let the media enter his behind-the-scenes circle this series would be a great inside look for all those who knew Derek Jeter the player and also Derek Jeter the Hall of Famer.

“During my career, I never had a chance to reflect on anything,” said Jeter, looking back on the beginning stages of becoming The Captain. Derek Jeter, who looked right into the Yankees’ team captaincy in 2003, says he sat down for close to 30 hours of interviews for the documentary, allowing him to brood on his career in ways he previously hadn’t.

“I wanted to capture it so I can have it in the future and share it with my girls when they get older, because they probably wouldn’t believe most of my career,” Jeter expressed.

“One thing that I’ve always had a real tough time during my career [was] I never had a chance to reflect on anything I’ve done, because it’s always, ‘What’s next?’ It could be a character flaw, but I think it’s probably the reason why I’m here,” The 47-year-old Veteran said.

The first episode of “The Captain” premieres July 18 on ESPN and the ESPN+ streaming service, with subsequent instalments set to release every Thursday.
