WATCH: Diamondbacks’ Madison Bumgarner gets ejected after tempers flare during substance check with the umpire

Madison Bumgarner
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitcher Madison Bumgarner was ejected during the first innings against the Miami Marlins after an argument with the first base umpire Dan Bellino resulted in the southpaw having to get pulled off during the game by bench coach Jeff Banister. Madison Bumgarner’s exploding on Dan Bellino wasn’t exactly for having a sticky substance of any sort on his hand, but it was mostly due to the exchange that happened with the umpire.
Normally a hand check takes about two to three seconds time, but that wasn’t exactly the case with Bumgarner. It looked more like the umpire was trying to bait him rather than check on him. Bumgarner didn’t even look down at his hand and within the few seconds of checking, he exchanged some words with the umpire where the opposite party surely didn’t take things laying down. The result was Bumgarner getting ejected from the game.

Madison Bumgarner’s ejection after the first innings has become a hot topic for controversy over the umpire’s behavior. It’s also true since this hand checking has shown inconsistent treatments from one umpire to another, even deferring from player to player treatment. But Bumgarner isn’t someone to look down on as stated on mediaite.com. And his actions proved that statement. His actions and comments led to an immediate ejection from the first base umpire and that’s when Bumgarner completely lost it.
The difference in checks between Bumgarner and Miami Marlins pitcher Elieser Hernandez is glaring because of the weird hand check the umpire did on Madison Bumgarner. Surely he didn’t like the excessive special treatment given to him. The Diamondbacks are currently leading the Miami Marlins 6-5 at the top of the eighth inning.
