As the countdown for the 2024 MLB season gets underway, all eyes will be on the New York Yankees and their performances. While there is still some time for that, a shocking rumor now appears to further break down the relationship between them and their former star Aaron Hicks.

According to former MLB catcher A.J. Pierzynski, the team seemed to be have some trouble with Hicks and his choice of playing golf. The former outfielder used to play golf on several occassions and even finished in eight position in a celebrity tournament.

Hicks playing golf has led to many criticizing him. Some have labeled this hobby of his as a reason for him getting constantly being injured.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but Aaron Hicks used to play in this event a few years ago, and the Yankees told him he had to stop because they thought that’s why he was getting injured. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but there was a rumor about that they told him he had to stop playing golf.

Aaron Hicks NY Yankees’ tenure

Aaron Hicks like many players had a tough time during his tenure with the New York Yankees. After a great start to his career, the 34-year-old struggled with form and injuries.

After making a name for himself at the Minnesota Twins, Hicks was traded to the Yankees in 2015. In his first few seasons, he established himself as one of the most reliable stars of the batting lineup.

After a Tommy John surgery in 2019, Hicks started to decline in form. This along with his frequent playing of golf annoyed fans to a point where several urged for his removal from the team.

Whether the rumor regarding the team forcing him to give up on golf is true or not, this does put the team in a tough spot and further damage the already broken relation between the two.

Following a poor start to the 2023 season where he batted with a .188 average, he was designated for assignment in May. He would later join the Baltimore Orioles on a one-year deal and enjoyed a career resurgence.

He went on to bat with a .275 average with seven home runs to his name. This saw him play an important role in the team’s postseason run following their divisional title win.

He is now a free agent and is waiting for some team to pick him. It now remains to see what does the future have in store for the 34-year-old veteran. A career switch to golf could also be well on his cards.
