Following his 10-game suspension for usage of a foreign substance on his hand, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German, has now vowed to use less rosin after he returns. The southpaw was ejected from the game against the Toronto Blue Jays after the umpires felt his hand was “too sticky”. As per the official league rules, German was automatically suspended for the next ten games for failing the substance check.
The Yankee pitcher was repeatedly questioned by the officials. In April, he was found to be using rosin on his hand. That day he was left off the hook with a warning and ordered to wash his hands. German was allowed to continue pitching later on. However this time there was no such thing as the umpires gave him his marching orders.
Before being ejected from the game against the Blue Jays, German was dominating on the mound. He had retired the first nine batters he faced without much fuss. This led to the on-field officials checking his hand. Umpire James Hoye later claimed that his hand was “the stickiest hand I’ve ever felt.”
On Sunday the pitcher stated that he still has not received any explanation regarding the usage of rosin. “As far as like a direct explanation on how much to use or not,” he said while seeking clarity on the matter. The MLB has allowed its usage but to a smaller extent only.
Since 2021, he became the fourth pitcher to be removed from the game after being found guilty of using foreign substances. NY Mets Max Scherzer was the first one this season. Interestingly, Scherzer was removed just a few days after German was allowed to continue the game in April.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone addresses Domingo German controversy
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has been under the heat from fans recently. He has been ejected from the games three times this season for protesting with the umpires. Speaking on the controversy surrounding the suspension of Domingo German, Boone said he and this team will look at the matter carefully.
In a simple response, Boone said that they will have to check what line is allowed for the usage of rosin. “Can’t have sticky on your hand. Period. So he’s (German) has got to be mindful of that,” he informed the media. Boone would certainly not mind having the southpaw back as quickly as he can as his side goes into a crucial phase of the season.
German is expected to re-join the rotation squad of the Yankees for his side’s Monday series opener against the Seattle Mariners. The New York side will go into the series on high momentum, after overcoming the challenging San Diego Padres. They took two games to one in their series at the Bronx as they continue their quest to catch up the top teams in their division.
