If there is one player who has impressed everyone since making his debut this season, then it’s Elly De La Cruz. The 21-year-old rising star has been in sensational form throughout his short career. He has made a mark for his speed and strength. On Saturday, he did something wild again as he managed to steal all the bases from second. By doing so, he became the first player in 60 years to do this.

The youngster’s impact was seen once again. A back-and-forth game was finely poised at 5-5 when the incident happened. He first drove in a run with an RBI single in the top half of the seventh inning. What happened next was something relief pitcher Elvis Peguero would not have thought of in his wildest dreams.

In the space of two pitches, De Cruz went from first to second and second to third. He took everyone by surprise, as he managed to steal home and beat the throw easily. This extraordinary feat by De La Cruz saw his team take a 7-5 lead. They added another run in the ninth to win the game 8-5.

When I saw him walk back to the mound, he was kind of at a slow pace. He didn’t look back over there at third, so I decided there to go,” he said through a translator after the game. The last player to steal all three bases in the same inning was Jon Berti of the Miami Marlins in 2020 against the New York Mets.

The Cincinnati Reds are having one of their best seasons in recent history. Compared to last season, they are in much better shape. The team also went on to record 12 straight wins before eventually losing to the Braves. Elly De La Cruz’s impact cannot be unseen. The Reds are 22-7 since he made his debut in June.

De La Cruz has since become an instant hit among baseball fans. He is currently batting with an average of 328, four home-runs and sixteen RBIs. Recently, he achieved yet another impressive feat as he hit for the cycle. De La Cruz became the youngest player to achieve that feat. However, after stealing all the bases against the Brewers, he broke a record that had stood for more than 100 years.

He became the first Reds player to steal all bases in one single inning since 1919. It appears that he is looking to break several more records. Fans were stunned when he declined the chance to appear at the home-run derby. Perhaps a humble figure in his own right, De La Cruz has all the ingredients to be the next big thing.
