The MLB has seen several players amaze the audience with their style of play. One of them though has shined much brighter than everyone else. That player is Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese international continues to earn praise from baseball fans for his skills and techniques. It seems even rival players are amazed by him as rising star Elly De La Cruz recorded a hilarious moment with him.
De La Cruz has taken the MLB by storm since his debut in June. Since then he has managed to hit for the cycle, hit an inside-the-park home run, and steal bases with relative ease. He though was perhaps stunned by the prowess of Ohtani. During the second game of the doubleheader between the Cincinnati Reds and the LA Angels, the Reds player would “poke” Ohtani, in trying to see if he was real or not.
Ohtani has slammed his 44th home run of the season in the first game. It was a bitter end for him as he was replaced following an arm fatigue in the second inning. Ohtani had picked up two strikeouts including De La Cruz. The Reds young sensation would go on to have a great game as he recorded six RBIs.
The moment of the day though belonged to these two sharing a pure moment of baseball. De La Cruz’s action of “poking” Ohtani to check if he actually is a real person led to widespread laughter and smiles on the pitch. His actions are justifiable as Ohtani continues to pull off stunts that have rarely been seen in baseball.
Cincinnati Reds sweep LA Angels to keep their postseason quest alive
The race for the postseason is getting hotter and hotter as each day passes. While some teams are running away with their division, there are some who are giving it all to squeeze through to the next phase. With the month of September only a week away, the pressure has now started on teams to deliver.
The Cincinnati Reds recorded a huge swing in their favor as they swept the LA Angels in the three-game series. Not only does this give them a good chance to continue their fight, but it also dampens the chance of the Angels. They have lost huge ground in their division and are right now 10.5 games behind the third wild card spot.
To make matters worse for the Angels, they might not see Ohtani pitch again. Not only because he will be a free agent next season and could join another team, but he has torn UCL in his arm. The awful night for the team was capped off with the shocking news regarding Mike Trout. Their star hitter is heading back to the injured list, 24 hours after he was reinstated to the team.
For the Reds though it was a huge win. After recording a big winning streak a few months back, they had suffered slight bumps on their way. They are firmly in contention for the wild card spots, currently in the third position, half a game ahead of SF Giants and Arizona D-Backs.
