On Wednesday, four-time gold glove award winner Eric Hosmer announced his retirement from MLB after 13 seasons. The former All-Star first baseman last appeared for the Chicago Cubs in the 2023 season where he managed just two home runs and 14 RBIs.

Despite this poor campaign, he is widely remembered for his time with the Kansas City Royals. Hosmer played a key part in the Royals 2015 World Series triumph and now retires with one championship ring from his career.

Excited to take on this new challenge, MoonBall Media, and our first project, The Diggin’ Deep Podcast. The playing days are unfortunately over but I’m committed to giving back to the baseball community that shaped my life.

Apart from his time with the Royals and Cubs, he also had stints with the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres. After winning his fourth Gold Glove in 2017, he became a free agent and joined the Padres on a eight-year, $144 million contract.

However, Hosmer was unable to replicate the heroics he had during his time at the Royals with the Padres. In 2019, he led NL first baseman with the most fielding errors in 14. In 2022, he was traded to the Red Sox where he spent one season before he joined the Cubs last time out.
