ESPN Broadcaster and Evan Russell

On Friday Night, Tennessee was up against Alabama State in the NCAA Regional Tournament opener, Troy Eklund was the ESPN Broadcaster. Evan Russell was absent in the line-up and there were many individuals hypothesizing on social media as to why did Tennessee leave him behind.

The ESPN Broadcaster went on and said while announcing that Evan Russell failed a drug test for use of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). He even said the Evan Russell has been suspended for the rest of the season, no official report was issued on anything related to what he went on with.

ESPN Broadcaster Troy Eklund said, “It was pretty crazy, failed a drug test so Evan Russell is suspended for the rest of the season, so Tennessee is going to have the whole rest of the team tested tomorrow, or the NCAA is. So, it’s going to be interesting to see if that’s just a one-player thing or throughout that is going through that whole entire program. Performance enhancing drugs is what it was said.”

Tennessee was unarguably defended their player with a prompt and straight-forward statement saying, “Evan Russell’s absence last night had nothing to do with any violation of team, NCAA, or SEC rules,” they continued, “ESPN is handling the situation and we are expecting a public apology from them later today.”

Later the ESPN Broadcaster had to publicly apologize to Evan Russell and Tennessee. He is announcing in the ongoing match between Grand Canyon vs. Missouri State.

Jason Russell, father of Evan Russell accepted ESPN Broadcaster Troy Eklund’s apology and tweeted, “Troy Eklund , your apology is appreciated and accepted. No anger in any form or fashion. God bless!!”
