All of the franchises in Major League Baseball are continuing the practice of celebrating Pride Month. However, the Texas Rangers refuse to be a part of it and continue their tradition of inviting people from the LGBTQ community to their stadium and honor them.
A few days back, the Los Angeles Dodgers invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to their stadium and presented them with the Community Heros Award. The Dodgers were met with huge protesters as fans blocked the entrance to the stadium and the bleachers were almost empty when the Sisters were in attendance.
The Texas Rangers haven’t celebrated Pride Night since 2003 when they did and were on the receiving end of some pretty heavy backlash from fans. The Dallas Morning News interviewed Rangers COO Neil Leibman back in 2020, who told them that the organization is doing the necessary changes internally and has made changes in their hiring process as well.
Texas Rangers don’t want to focus on anything other than baseball
With all the teams giving in to celebrate Pride Night, the Texas Rangers’ exclusion seems like a breath of fresh air to many fans. A board member of Texas Family Project said, “People just want to watch baseball. To the vast majority of fans, Rangers’ decision to buck the trend of celebrating sexuality is a breath of fresh air.”
Fans were also in agreement with the decision of the Texas Rangers and celebrated the team on social media. Many fans were relieved that the Rangers didn’t give in to the pressure of promoting LGBTQ. Here are some of the reactions of fans who backed the Rangers.
The Texans Rangers are currently the second-best team in MLB with a 43-27 record. Looks like they are on the right track.
