The return of Fernando Tatis Jr. was the most awaited one, the line-up introducing him, Manny Machado and Juan Soto in the same game being just a game away. But, unfortunately for the fans this season will not be the one where they see their 23-year-old slugger perform in Major League Baseball.

The San Diego Padres waited the entire season for Fernando Tatis to return but they would have to wait until 2023 as he has been handed an 80-game suspension for testing positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Fernando Tatis Jr. was only six days into his rehab assignment, out indefinitely for a fractured wrist. He was on the brink to make his season debut, appearing in four games with Double-A San Antonio on a rehab assignment, collecting two hits Aug. 9. Tatis will have to sit out the final 48 games of the 2022 regular season and first 32 games next season under the suspension.

The San Diego Padres went all in trading a haul of highly-ranked prospects to the Nationals for superstar outfielder Juan Soto and formidable first baseman Josh Bell. The Padres are 63-51. While they trail the Dodgers by 16 games in the NL West, they would qualify for the postseason as a Wild Card team if the playoffs started today.

Fernando Tatis, who has a .292/.369/.596 slash line over 273 career games across three big league seasons, fractured his wrist in an offseason motorcycle accident.
