Fernando Tatis Jr. showed what it is like to be a top-notch player, delivered in front of a few Minor League Baseball fans, taunting him a an ‘overrated’ player. Tatis Jr. was playing his third game since he started his rehab and it was probably the best of the three. The young San Diego Padres phenomenon is the antonym of overrated.

Fernando Tatis is preparing for his Major League Baseball return as he starts his rehab for a broken wrist that was suffered during the offseason. on Tuesday, playing for Double-A San Antonio at Frisco. Tatis went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and a pair of walks before he left for a pinch-runner in the top of the seventh inning.

Fernando Tatis is expected to play center for the first time on Wednesday. He underwent surgery to repair a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist on March 16. As he was digging into the box, a group of fans started an ill-advised “overrated” chant that quickly proved moronic as the young superstar got his barrel on the ball and ran 3/4ths of the way around the bases.

“Reports are that he feels good,” manager Bob Melvin said on Monday. “He needs some at-bats. He needs some games. … It’s the at-bats that are really going to tell the tale, how he feels from day to day and how he’s feeling at the plate.”

“The part that you worry about is that there was no Spring Training and there was no lead-up to this,” Melvin said. “There was really nothing he could do, other than condition his legs and his arm, so we’ll see how it goes. But he’s not going to be out in the field every day.”
