Freddie Freeman, first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers achieved another milestone in his career as he recorded his 2000th hit. During the Dodgers-Astros game, Freeman doubled twice to reach this feat and became the 295th player in history to do so.
Freeman’s hit did tie the game in the eight innings but it didn’t do the trick as the Houston Astros managed to win the game at the last moment. This 6-5 defeat brought an end to the Dodgers-Astros series with the Los Angeles-based franchise winning 2-1.
Freddie Freeman did have a blast last night despite his team losing the match. His cracking 2000th hit was witnessed by thousands of fans along with his wife Chelsea and son Charlie who cheered him on during the entire game.
Can Freddie Freeman achieve 3000 career hits before retirement?
Freddie Freeman started his career playing for the Atlanta Braves who selected him in the second round of the 2007 MLB draft. He played for the Braves for 12 years and won the 2021 World Series defeating the Astros. In 2022, Freeman moved on from the Braves and signed a six-year $162 million contract with the Dodgers.
There are only 33 players in MLB history to record 3000 career hits. While Freeman has been an exceptional player, he is currently 33-year-old now. He is not necessarily out of his prime but it did take him 1801 games to reach 2000 hits. To record 3000 hits might be a difficult task for him and by estimates would require another six or seven seasons to garner 1000 more hits.
Fans were extremely happy as Freddie Freeman recorded his 2000-career hit. They showered praises and love on the Dodgers’ first baseman and many even called him a future Hall of Famer. Here are a few reactions from fans on Twitter.
While reaching 3000 career hits would most definitely make Freddie Freeman a Hall of Famer, most players don’t even reach where Freeman is right now. It’ll be really interesting to see whether or not he will become the 34th player in MLB history to have 3000 hits.
