Gerrit Cole, the ace pitcher of the New York Yankees seems to be in sour mood. During his team’s recent Spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays, he made his first appearance of the season. In this he went off against several Blue Jays hitters including Daniel Vogelbach who got the better of him.
The former New York Mets star smashed a long two-run bomb off Cole in the first inning of the game. The slugger would later flip the bat and make a slow trot across the bases. This was something that irked the pitcher.

Following the game, Cole would make his thoughts clear and took a dig at Vogelbach. In his remarks, the 2023 AL Cy Young Award claimed he will not forget this moment.
Yeah, what’s the day? Are we still in February? March 1? Yeah, he enjoyed that homer. I don’t forget a lot of things.Gerrit Cole on Daniel Vogelbach.
As for Vogelbach, there is nothing he could have done better. The 31-year-old designated hitter is not one of the fastest players on the pitch. According to reports from Fox News, his sprint speed was ranked in the bottom two percent of the majors.
This though now adds more fuel to the heated rivalry between the Blue Jays and Yankees. Last year, tensions boiled over when Alex Manoah called Cole the worst cheater of the game. Later their star man Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would drop a huge bomb on the Yankees and claimed he would never play for them.
During a game in May 2023, coach John Schneider was seen yelling at the Yankees dugout. This season, a total of 13 meetings are scheduled between the Blue Jays and the Yankees with the Bronx Bombers beginning their home opener against them on April 5.
Gerrit Cole optimistic to have another great year following Cy Young success in 2023
In 2023, Gerrit Cole was once again on top of his game. The ace pitcher was one of the few memorable things for the New York Yankees in a disappointing year. The 33-year-old emphasized that every team now wants to beat him and the Yankees due to his dominant performances.

Despite this, he is optimistic of having another great year following huge personal success last season.
When you have a great, great year, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a good year the next year. It’s just going to be hard to duplicate what you did, because somebody else might have a great year. But it doesn’t diminish who you are.Gerrit Cole as per NY Post.
Winning the Cy Young Award in back-to-back seasons is not something unheard of. A total of 11 pitchers in MLB history have gone on to win the award for two consecutive seasons with the last being Texas Ranger’s ace Jacob deGrom in 2018 and 2019. So for Cole, the mission is not impossible but will definitely be hard as he tries to help the team turn around their poor form from last season in the upcoming year.
