“Oblique waiting to happen”: Giancarlo Stanton should not monopolize the Home Run Derby says Gregg Giannotti
Gio wants no part of Giancarlo Stanton in Home Run Derby
Giancarlo Stanton was believed to have a wonderful outing in the Home Run Derby in Los Angeles near his hometown. His participation was one to look forward to, but according to radio personality Gregg Giannotti also famously known as ‘Gio’, Giancarlo Stanton and any Yankee fans should want no part of the 2022 All-Star swinging for the fences.
Gio says if any Yankee roster member participates in the Home Run Derby that would only indicate upon hogging a youngster’s place, apart from this discussion, Gio also feels that if Giancarlo Stanton takes part for the Yankees, he is only pointing towards a major oblique injury ahead of the All-Star game.
“That’s an oblique waiting to happen,” Gio said. “[Pete] Alonso has been good with this the last couple years. Stanton is having a healthy year, Judge is having a healthy year, I don’t want to see either one of those guys in the Home Run Derby.”
Gio strongly cautions Giancarlo Stanton to step away from the Home Run Derby
Giancarlo Stanton is headed to the All-Star Game for the first time as a New York Yankee. He was voted in as a starter in the outfield thanks in part to his 21 homers. He’ll join Aaron Judge, the top vote-getter in MLB, for the game. Aaron Judge, who said he’ll sit out the Home Run Derby, Stanton indicated he likely would participate in the exhibition if invited.
Now if Giancarlo Stanton participates, it would be the fourth time in his career, participating in 2014 when he led the league in home runs, 2016 when he won the event, and 2017 when he again led the league in homers with 59.
“It would be exciting,” Gio said. “But I just would worry about him.”
“It’s really cool to be able to go where I grew up and be in the All-Star Game,’’ Stanton said Friday after the Yankees beat the Red Sox, 12-5, at Fenway Park. He added, “That’s where I was from the start, it’s been an interesting past couple year, but it’s good to be back out there.”
