“Get back there Mikey”- Giancarlo Stanton to commence rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset today

Giancarlo Stanton
One of the Yankees’ top sluggers is one step closer to rejoining the lineup. Prior to Friday night’s 4-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Giancarlo Stanton worked out. If all goes well, the former MVP will spend Saturday and Sunday on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, according to manager Aaron Boone.
“We’ll eventually get to that point [of getting him in the outfield],” Boone said Friday. “But first things first, want to get him in the DH spot, just get him back in, and then we’ll … kind of like we did last year, where we built on the run — the outfield reps, we’ll hopefully make that a part at some point, but not immediately.” If everything goes according to plan for Stanton, he will bat live against Luis Severino on Tuesday.
Luis Severino coming in soon after Giancarlo Stanton

After sustaining a low grade lat strain on July 14 and being placed on the 60-day injured list, Severino is getting closer to returning. His projected return date is mid-September. Severino was having a solid season up until his injury, recording a 3.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 86 innings in 16 games in 2022. Right-hander for the Yankees stated he was prepared to take on live hitters.
“They’ll get in there again at some point, right now off the bench,” Boone said. “We’re trying to do all we can to win ballgames and he needs to find a way to be a part of that, too,” he said.
