Tuesday night’s 10-1 victory by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers saw Hanser Alberto make his fifth appearance of the season in the circle. After catcher Victor Caratini of the Brewers had pitched the bottom of the eighth inning, Alberto entered the game in the top of the ninth.

Caratini gave up three runs, but Alberto finished off his fourth straight scoreless outing. He didn’t start the game for the Dodgers, but in the fifth inning, when the Brewers introduced left-handed relief pitcher Brent Suter, he came in as a pinch-hitter for Joey Gallo. In his first at-bat, Alberto doubled and later took a walk.

Alberto and Catfish Hunter are the only players in MLB history during the Modern Era (since 1901) to reach base twice and finish the same game on the mound, according to STATS LLC. On May 8, 1968, Hunter played a flawless game, achieving an uncommon feat.

In any of his outings this season, Alberto has never retired the side in order until Tuesday. The 29-year-old taking the mound is a source of excitement for his Dodgers colleagues in addition to helping save a bullpen pitcher. “He’s incredible,” Tony Gonsolin said. “He comes in late in the games and locks it down.”

Manager Dave Roberts added: “He’s making this pitching thing look too easy. He’s just under the hitting speed, but he throws strikes and he misses barrels. I hope we can keep getting them out there. That’s a good thing.”

An “Unknown” pitch was thrown by Hanser Alberto. On a recent road trip, Alberto faced off against some former Kansas City Royals teammates. Kauffman Stadium failed to recognize Alberto’s pitch type, and the 63 mph pitch was noted as “unknown” on the scoreboard. Will Smith, who was seated behind the plate, was also unable to provide much justification or description.
