The race for the MLB postseason has kicked off. As baseball gets close to entering its final stretch, teams are giving their all to make it to the knockout stages of the season. On Sunday, the Seattle Mariners kept their chances well alive as they swept the reigning World Champions Houston Astros.
Last season, the Mariners broke their two-decade-long wait to once again appear in the postseason knocking out the Toronto Blue Jays in the wildcard series, they were swept apart by the Astros in the division series. This year, the Astros are finding it difficult to replicate last year’s heroics and the Mariners took full advantage of that.
The Mariners held out the Astros 7-6 on Sunday to complete a three-game series. They outscored their opponents 19-9 in the process. One of them who led the charge for the Mariners was Julio Rodriguez. The 2022 Rookie of the Year was one of the most inform players. He went four consecutive games with four hits to shock every MLB fan.
Also known to fans as “J-Rod” as compared to MLB great Alex Rodriguez‘ nickname of “A-Rod”, Rodriguez stole the show. He and his team have now won six games on the bounce and jumped right back into contention for a postseason spot.
Twitter reacts as Seattle Mariners sweep Houston Astros

The Seattle Mariners had started the season off in great fashion but slow downed the middle. They have now once again taken the pace and will be hopeful of holding their position. The side six-game winning streak which includes the sweep of the Astros, has helped them close down the gap between them. They are now only a half-game back from them in the second spot.
To make things even better for them, the Texas Rangers were themselves swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. This result means that the Mariners are only three games behind them and could mount a challenge for the top spot. The Mariners fanbase and Twitter were happy to see them sweep the Astros and celebrated with them. A user wrote while giving in the win. Check out some other reactions including that.
The Mariners (69-55) will now take on the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, and the Oakland Athletics in their next outings. The two AL Central teams and the A’s are having another poor season. With the current form they are in, many would be expecting the Mariners to continue their winning run. Will they be successful in sweeping these teams would be interesting to watch out for.
