Elly De La Cruz, infielder for the Cincinnati Reds has been in the limelight as he is off to an electrifying start to his Major League Baseball career. The rookie sensation scored a 458-foot home run, his career first which was a cracking hit and just a row short of exiting the stadium.

However, the home run wasn’t the only amazing feat the 21-year-old achieved since his debut in the majors. De La Cruz ran an 11.48 second third stop which was by far the fastest anyone has run in the league.

Everyone in the league was amazed by De La Cruz’s lightning-fast legs. Even NFL superstar, Patrick Mahomes was amazed by his speed and insisted on De La Cruz for an autographed ball and bat. The young Dominican was reluctant at first but gave in and signed the ball with the inscription — “World’s fastest man.”

Elly De La Cruz himself said that he is the fastest man in the world. However, there might be two individuals who might need more evidence from the rookie to back his claim of being the fastest. Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill are two of them.

How fast is MLB superstar Elly De La Cruz?

Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world completed the 100m race in 9.58 seconds and created the world record during the 2009 IAAF World Championships. After doing basic arithmetics, Bolt’s speed was recorded at 34.6 feet per second.

Tyreek Hill or Cheetah as he is known in the National Football League, reached his top speed of 22.6 mph during the Chiefs-Vikings game back in 2019 when he played for Kansas City. Hill’s speed was 33.14 feet per second.

Now, Elly De La Cruz’s speed was approximately 31.2 feet per second which he ran during the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Standalone, this speed is the stuff of legends but when put across the likes of Bolt and Hill, it’s quite clear, De La Cruz is not the fastest man in the world just yet.

Hill and Bolt were engaged in a pretty heated internet battle a few years back as to which one of them is the fastest in the world. But now, it looks like they will have to add De La Cruz to the conversation as well, because boy can he run!

The superstar wide receiver of the NFL challenged football legend Lionel Messi to a sprint after he signed with Inter Miami FC recently. With Elly De La Cruz claiming himself to be the fastest, it’s not too hard to imagine that Hill might ask De La Cruz to race him to end the debate. Who wouldn’t love to see De La Cruz in a sprint with Hill and possibly Bolt for the title of “Fastest Man in the World!”
