It is often being said that good things take time. When the going gets tough, one is told to stay true and positive. Doing this will surely get them the reward they have hoped and dreamed for. Looks like Jarred Kelenic is finally getting his moment and reward he would have thought off before going pro.

The 23-year-old American was one of baseball’s hottest prospects a few years ago. He was drafted in the first round by the New York Mets in the 2018 June Amateur draft. There were high hopes for the young gun and perhaps those heavy expectations on the shoulders led to his downfall. He was unable to find a way into the Mets line-up and his worst fear came true when he got traded in December 2018.

Kelenic was traded to the Seattle Mariners along with a few other players. It was not until May 2021 that he made his major league debut. Over the course of the year, he kept on switching between their Mariners and their Triple-A affiliate team. In his 93 major league games that year, he batted with a mere average of .181 but managed 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.

The next season also failed to bring in the desired results for Kelenic. He batted with a much below average than last year with .141. He only got 7 home-runs and 17 RBIs. A much poor display than the previous season. After such a presentation it is no suprise that Kelenic was left demotivated and emotional. Things have however changed in 2023.

Well its still early to predict anything in the season, but we can certainly see the end-product. At the start of the season, Kelenic signed a one-year deal with the Mariners. On Friday night, Kelenic homered for a fourth game running as the Mariners won 5-3 against the Colorado Rockies. He is also on a career-high eight game hitting streak.

In a recent game against the Chicago Cubs, Kelenic slammed a monstrous 482-feet home-run. This took place in the eighth inning in his team’s 5-2 victory. It is the second longest home-run hit at the Wrigley Field (home of the Cubs) during the Statcast era, which started all the way back in 2015.

As of the moment, Kelenic is batting at a career-high average of .356 with four home-runs and seven RBIs already to his name. He is said to become a key player of the Mariners if things continue like this. They are currently third in AL West standing with a 7-8 record, one game behind the Angels. Last year they ended their two decade postseason drought. Their celebrations were cut short as they were swept by three games to none in the best-of-five AL division series by Houston Astros.
