As the excitement for the 2024 MLB season continues to builds on, Jenny Cavnar, an MLB announcer has now scripted history. She will now become the first lead play-by-play woman announcer in the league when she takes the mic for the Oakland Athletics.
The 40-year-old has been working for the Colorado Rockies from the past 12 seasons. During this she served as a backup play-by-play announcer, regional TV reporter and also worked as host during the pre- and post game presentations.
This is though not the first time when Cavnar has lead the women’s revolution in baseball. She previously scripted history when she took over the play-by-play announcer role for the Rockies. In 2018, she would announce the game between the Rockies and the Padres, thus becoming the first female personality to do this at a MLB game.
Cavnar will now take over the reins from Glen Kuiper in the broadcasting booth. Kuiper served as the play-by-play announcer for the A’s for 17 seasons from 2006 to 2023.
She is also currently part of a group of female TV and radio announcers in baseball that includes names like Orioles play-by-play announcer Melanie Newman, Yankees radio commentator Suzyn Waldman and ESPN analyst Jessica Mendoza.
Oakland Athletics’ ‘excited’ for Jenny Cavnar to be part of their broadcast them
In the recent months, the excitement levels surrounding the Oakland Athletics have dropped by a huge margin. The major reason for this has been their relocation to Las Vegas.
Despite this drama, the team have expressed their excitement to have Jenny Cavnar on their broadcasting team.
In their statement released, the A’s said:
Jenny is a very talented announcer with significant experience covering baseball... We’re very excited for her to join our excellent team and lead our A’s coverage starting this seasonOakland Athletics on Jenny Cavnar as per MLB.com
This now marks the second straight day when news about a woman making MLB history has come up. Earlier, umpire Jen Pawol was selected to be one of the officials for the upcoming MLB Spring training games. This gives Pawol the chance to become the first female umpire to get behind the plate at major league level.
