Jesus Sanchez of the Miami Marlins stands at the top of the leaderboard by hitting the longest MLB 496-foot moonshot in 2022. In the top of the 2nd, Sanchez turned on a 2-2 pitch from the Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Feltner and hit a 496-foot moonshot that flew over the third deck of seats at Coors Field. It is not only the longest 2022 shot but also the 2nd longest home run hit in the history of the Coors Field.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said after the Marlins’ 7-1 loss to the Rockies on Monday afternoon, “It’s just monumental”. “You don’t get that feeling more than a couple of times in your lifetime.” The ball that travelled 496-foot made itself the longest home run hit by a left-handed hitter. The first longest home run was Giancarlo Stanton’s 504-foot shot in 2016, while Sanchez passed by Mike Trout’s 472-foot hit on April 14 in Arlington.

Jesus Sanchez obliterated a slider from the Rockies starter Ryan Feltner and later commented, “You’ll hit some more”. “But not very many like that one. I’d like to see a picture from where that ball landed. It probably looks like it’s two blocks away.”

Earlier Sanchez was hitting just .151/.205/.260 over 78 appearances in May. So he was in need of a big hit on Monday, and it seemed like his wish came true. As noted on mlb.com, after the game, Sanchez said through an interpreter, “I hit it right there, in the sweet spot”. “It felt great, just incredible.”

He further stated that he has been working on maintaining his timing of hitting fastballs in his practices. Though, the ball he hit wasn’t a fastball, but a slider. Sanchez said, “I was looking fastball but then I saw the slider and was able to get the sweet spot on it”.
