Jhoan Duran came out to pitch with immense confidence, unleashed a 100.8-mph split-fingered pitch that clocked in as the first off-speed pitch ever tracked in the triple digits, per Stat-cast. This character reflected one of a leader, the leader of that pack is a rookie who has quickly emerged as one of the best relief pitchers in baseball.

According to Baseball Savant, not only does Jhoan Duran leads the majors this season with an average splitter speed of 96.2 mph, his four-seam fastball also leads the Major League with an average of 100.7 mph. His curveball is second in baseball at an average of 87.7 mph.

Jhoan Duran certainly stepped up with a purpose on Monday, “It’s not something I was looking for, but it’s great to know, especially because this is the big leagues and a lot of legends have come through here,” Jhoan Duran said. “My career is starting, and doing that at this level is really hard, and I’m really happy about it.”
