“Things went my way”- Joey Gallo hits second triple for Dodgers against the Marlins
Joey Gallo
Joey Gallo was acquired by the Dodgers from the Yankees around the Trade Deadline with the intention that he would help the struggling outfielder improve his offensive strategy. In the Dodgers’ 10-3 victory against the Marlins in the series finale on Sunday at Dodger Stadium, Gallo demonstrated his ability to make an impact on both sides of the ball. The left fielder made two standout defensive plays in addition to going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, and two runs scored.
“I’ve been feeling pretty good,” Gallo told SportsNet L.A. “We have a great team. It’s easy to come in here and take at-bats and just try to be a team guy. Things went my way today and it went our way this whole series. It’s exciting.” Right-hander Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins, who has up until now been the front-runner for the National League Cy Young Award, gave up Gallo’s two hits. In his shortest start of the season (3 2/3 innings), the Dodgers gave Alcantara season highs in earned runs (six) and hits (10), pushing his ERA from 1.92 to 2.19.

This game came to be Joey Gallo’s first multi-hit game with the Dodgers
Gallo’s first hit came in the second inning on a triple that was scored on by Cody Bellinger‘s two-run home run. Gallo’s fly ball nearly cleared the wall on its own (and would have been out in three MLB ballparks, including his old stomping grounds, Yankee Stadium).
Instead, it sailed beyond Marlin’s right fielder Brian Anderson’s glove and struck close to the right-center-field wall. It was Gallo’s eighth triple in his eight-year MLB career and his second triple of 2022. In the bottom of the fourth, Gallo also hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a groundout by Bellinger, and then turned on the jets to score on a base hit to left field by Mookie Betts. Gallo has multiple hits for the Dodgers for the first time ever.
Even though Gallo has so far faced nearly exclusively right-handed pitching, it is still early in his time with the Dodgers, and his hitting numbers have improved. Gallo’s batting line for New York this season was.159/.282/.339 in 82 games. He has 35 plate appearances and a slash line of.267/.371/.667 in 12 games (eight starts) with the Dodgers.
