“Tried to play through it”: Joey Votto traumatizes fans after announcing season-ending surgery for a Rotator Cuff Tear

Joey Votto

Joey Votto recently set a benchmark for all the Canadian Nationality players after playing his 1989th game in the Major League passing the Hall of Famer Larry Walker. From that level of excitement, the fans had to take an unwelcoming turn into misery as on Wednesday Votto said that he plans to have surgery to repair his torn left rotator cuff, forcing him to miss the rest of the season.

The Six-time Reds All-Star Joey Votto announced about his surgery after the Cincinnati Reds’ 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The 38-year-old will undergo his surgery on Friday, followed by a six-month rehab process aimed at getting him back on the field in time for next season’s Spring Training. This has sent Joey Votto’s fans into mental trauma.

“I don’t know how to explain what exactly happened, but it’s been lingering for a while,” Joey Votto said. “I’ve had a difficult time with it.”. According to Votto the injury dates back to 2015, “I’ve tried to strength train it, and it didn’t work,” he added.

“Only the past maybe three months or so has it been painful to the point where it’s difficult to lift [and] hurts to sleep,” Joey Votto said. “I’m not sure it’s affected my performance. … I can’t say that. I don’t want to make an excuse.”

Joey Votto indicated that the entire subject of having the surgery rose from an MRI after the team’s latest road trip where the doctor did not surprise him by telling the necessary action as he knew the pain he was fighting. In 91 games this season, Votto batted .205 with 11 homers and 41 RBIs.

“It’s a big blow,” Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said. “Obviously we’re going to miss him a ton. I have no idea how he was playing with it … trying to play this game with a torn rotator cuff. I was lucky enough to talk to the doctors. They were very clear this has to get done in order to get Joey back healthy for next season. As much as we’ll miss him now, that’s kind of what I’m looking forward to.”
