“I sucked” Jordan Montgomery left red-faced after Aaron Boone banished him off the mound

Jordan Montgomery
Jordan Montgomery was at the mound on Tuesday when he took a 2-0 lead to the New York Yankees and converted it into a 5-2 lead to the New York Mets in the third inning. To his surprise, shortly after surrendering his fifth run of the night, Jordan saw his manager Aaron Boone walking towards him extending his right hand to claim the baseball.
Jordan Montgomery could only utter ‘Why?’ when Citi Field gave him the response he required. Manager Aaron Boone did explain to him, the decision he was about to undertake, he patted Jordan’s chest as something has to be understood between them.
Jordan Montgomery permitted early homers to Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar and the Yankees couldn’t catch up, dropping the Subway Series opener to the Mets, 6-3. “That’s the thing about Monty (Jordan Montgomery),” Boone said postgame. “He always wants the ball, whether it’s going great or a night like tonight where he’s struggling…the kind of at-bats they were having against him, being over 70 pitches in the third inning.”
Jordan Montgomery down casted after his substandard performance

“I wanted to be out there, but I sucked,” Jordan Montgomery said. “Obviously, I needed to be pulled. But I was ready to throw as many pitches as necessary.”
Jordan Montgomery’s had the shortest outing of his 2022 season which dropped his record to 0-3 with an 8.40 ERA in four career starts against the Mets. Although Aaron Judge got his 38th home run of the season.
The New York Yankees were not able to pull back the lead already given in the New York Mets in the third inning. July has definitely been off the track for the League Leaders as they lost 11 out of their 21 games.
“Just about every inning, we had opportunities and weren’t able to punch through,” Boone said postgame on the overall performance of his team. “That’s kind of the difference when you’re playing some of these close games. We were pretty consistently pushing through and winning those games, [and] we’ve lost a few of those over this stretch. We know we can be a little bit better.”
