One of the most glorious feats in MLB is hitting for the cycle. The accomplishment requires some great play and a little bit of luck. On Monday night, Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve became the ninth player in franchise history to complete this feat. He is also the first Astros player since 2013 to get this feat.

Recently, Altuve wrote his name in MLB folklore as he became their third player to achieve 2,000 hits. While that milestone is another historic one, hitting for the cycle is considered a rare feat. He completed the cycle in style as well, as he hit a two-run home run over the Green Monster in Fenway against the Red Sox.

A game that saw both teams exchanging early blows eventually saw the Astros run away with it. They would win the game 13-5 with Altuve being the star man. He went 4-for-6 to complete the cycle and cashed in four RBIs.

He led off with a double and a single in the third and fifth innings respectively. With the Astros 4-3 down in the sixth inning, he would turn the game around with a two-run triple off the wall. The crowning moment came in the eighth inning as he tucked away a two-run bomb to extend his side’s lead to 13-4. This was the fifth cycle of the year, showcasing an improvement in the batting part of the game.

This season Jose Altuve has struggled for game time. The major reason has been his injuries which has seen him being sidelined several time. His home run against the Red Sox that completed the cycle was his 10th home run of the year. His absence has played a major part in the team’s struggles this year.

There are some fans who are still unhappy with this involvement in the infamous sign-stealing scandal. However, there was plenty to support him and congratulate him for this historic feat in his legendary career. One user would go on to label him “An absolute legend”. Here are some other reactions from Twitter.

The 33-year-old star though is firmly back in action. Before Monday he was hitting with an average of .314 and had 30 RBIs to his name. He is now the first player since Brandon Barnes to hit for the cycle for the Astros.

As the playoff run intensifies, Altuve will have to play an important part in helping the reigning champions reach the latter stage. Currently, they are third in the AL West, one game behind the Seattle Mariners in jam-pack division.
