On Saturday, during the MLB game between Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners, a piece of history was recorded. Astros’ star man Jose Altuve recorded his 2,000th career hit. By doing so he became just the third Astros player to reach this huge milestone. The other two players on this list are Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell and Craig Baggio.
Altuve who has missed huge parts of the season through injury, was delighted by the record. The historic moment came in the fifth inning when he hit a leadoff single. Unfortunately for him though, he was thrown out at second while trying to turn it into a double.
The jam-packed Minute Maid Park would explode as one of their modern-day greats hit a ball down the line. While making his way back through to the dugout, Altuve’s accomplishment was shared on the big screen which led to huge cheers. He would tip his hat to the crowd, thanking them for their support for this legendary moment.
Altuve who finished the day 3-for-5 was unable to help his team win. “I know we lost today and not in a good way, but I’m really happy and thankful with my teammates, my family, and God,” he said after the game. He further added how this was a “huge accomplishment,“.
Twitter reacts as Jose Altuve reaches huge career milestone

Jose Altuve has established himself as one of the modern-day greats. The eight-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner though has always been an enemy n the eye of the baseball community. One of the major reasons for this has been the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. The team was found guilty of stealing signs in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
While Commissioner Rob Manfred failed to take any strict actions against them, the fans have never stepped back in projecting their true feelings. Despite the historic achievement by Altuve, they were left unimpressed by him. One user called him out to be the “most unlikeable player ever,”. Check out some other reactions in this matter.
This season the Astros have suffered a little slip-up. While they do boost a good record, they are currently 2.5 games behind their Texan rivals, Texas Rangers. Their two successive loss at the hands of the Mariners has been a reason for the gap between them and the Rangers. They will take to the field on Sunday hoping to avoid getting swept by the Seattle-based side as the race for the postseason intensifies.
