New York Yankees’ third baseman Josh Donaldson will fail to be a part of New York Yankees’ series-opening game on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays after Major League Baseball upheld the one-game suspension imposed against him in May, according to the Associated Press. MLB heard Josh Donaldson’s appeal last Thursday, and he did succeed in one respect, as the league then only reduced his fine to $5,000 from $10,000, also Donaldson will have to serve the suspension during the Yankees’ series opener on Tuesday night.

Jackie Robinson broke the MLB colour barrier in 1947 and every team in the big leagues has retired his No. 42 in his honour. Josh Donaldson, A three-time All-Star and the 2015 AL MVP with Toronto, Donaldson said he was referring to Tim Anderson, who is Black, was quoted as saying: “I kind of feel like today’s Jackie Robinson … because he changed the game, and I feel like I’m getting to a point to where I need to change the game.”

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said: “This is just my opinion — [that’s] somewhere he should not be going.” New York star Aaron Judge said: “I just don’t think it’s the right thing to do there.”

Josh Donaldson had to apologize to his buddy Tim Anderson and Robinson family for a racist remark

Josh Donaldson insisted that his comments were just “friendly banter’’ with Tim Anderson and that it had “nothing to do with trying to bring him down or the race situation.” He even issued a public apology to the Robinson family: “First and foremost, I have the utmost respect for what Tim Anderson brings to the game of baseball.”

Donaldson wrote in Thursday’s statement. “I stated over the weekend that I apologized for offending Tim and that it was a misunderstanding based on multiple exchanges between us over the years. My view of that exchange hasn’t changed and I absolutely meant no disrespect. In the past, it had never been an issue and now that it is, we have a mutual understanding.”

“I would also like to apologize to Mrs Rachel Robinson and the Jackie Robinson family for any distress this incident may have caused. Jackie was a true American hero and I hold his name in the highest regard.”

In his first season with the Yankees, the 37-year-old Donaldson is batting .235 with five homers and 18 RBIs.
