There is a famous saying, “Let bygones be bygones.” The MLB trade deadline this year saw ace pitcher Justin Verlander part ways with the New York Mets after a horrendous showing. The veteran was signed on a huge deal, but poor performances from both him and the team saw them go their separate ways. It appears that there is no love lost between them.

The Mets were considered heavy favorites as they bolstered their starting rotation with Verlander. He was expected to form a formidable partnership with a fellow ace in the form of Max Scherzer. However, the duo were unable to do so. According to reports from the New York Post, an unknown Met has accused Verlander of acting like a “diva” during his stay in New York.

As per the report, Justin Verlander was seen complaining about the team’s behind-the-scenes work. The ace was said to be unhappy with the Mets analytical department and often compared it with the ones at the Astros. This “diva” attitude also caused some trouble with Max Scherzer, as the pitchers failed to coordinate during that second stint together.

After entering free agency following his contract expiration with the Astros, there has been speculation regarding Justin Verlander’s next team. The 2022 World Series winner decided to embark on a new challenge and joined the Mets in a two-year mega-money deal. However, things did not work out well, and he would return to the Astros as a part of the trade.

Verlander has no hard feelings for the team and said that he has the utmost respect for them. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for their organization and how they treat players,” NY Post quoted him as saying. The 40-year-old would admit that things did not pan out according to their plan.

After a poor start to the season, Justin Verlander admitted that the season has not gone as they hoped. He did show signs of recovery in the month of July, when he went 4-1. Verlander would end his tenure with the Mets with a 6-5 record.

In his first game back with the Astros, he looked like his former self. He would throw seven innings while giving up two runs. As for the Mets, they are still struggling despite trading away their two aces for young talents. The NY Mets was blown away by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, signaling more worrying signs for the imminent future.
