Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander and Houston Astros’ deal worth $50 million is given green light by MLB on Monday. The agreement between both parties was signed already which was pending MLB approval, as reported by Buster Olney from ESPN. The news comes at the time when the owners have locked out the players in the labor battles which are in progress.
As per reports from MLB.com, Verlander will return to Houston on a one-year contract. The contract is reportedly worth $25M and includes a player option for 2023.
Justin Verlander deal signed before the deadline, MLB Approved
The player and the franchise reached the agreement last month before the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement with no second thought over his physical condition. The conclusive element for MLB was that the deal which was a done deal both from Verlander’s camp and the Houston Astros camp was to be signed and executed before the deadline.
The MLB failed to sign out the deal before the lockout went into effect. As of now the MLB and the players association have worked through the final approval of the contract and even though the deal was signed prior to the expiration of CBA the deal, holds him with the Astros for the years 2022 and 2023 is in force.
The Astros set foot in the lockout with an open spot on the 40-man roster, perhaps in anticipation of this exact scenario. No corresponding move will need to be made
