“Am all for umpires…not against them” – Kyle Schwarber loses cool after terrible Angel Hernandez call during Brewers-Phillies game

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber on Sunday unleashed a league’s worth of frustration on umpire Angel Hernandez. This took place during their recent Major League Baseball (MLB) clash against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park.

Facing a full count in the bottom of the ninth inning in a game where Philadelphia trailed 1-0 against Brewers, 1-0, the Ohio native Schwarber took a fastball from closer Josh Hader. The pitch was outside, however, Schwarber was not awarded his base.

Adding to this, Hernandez went on to call Schwarber out on strikes and Schwarber immediately erupted in disagreement with the decision.

As soon as this bizarre incident took place, Schwarber, 29, slammed his bat into the mound, sending it bouncing toward the dugout which was followed by his helmet. He didn’t stop here and confronted Hernandez, dramatically gesturing in all different directions.

“Not here to bury anyone but it wasn’t good”

Kyle Schwarber talked about this in the media as well and looked quite pissed off at the same.

“Everyone kind of saw what was going on,” Schwarber said afterwards, as quoted by MLB.com. “I’m not here to bury anyone, but it wasn’t very good. You wish that … I don’t know how to really say it. It just wasn’t very good. Guys were doing a really good job tonight of not saying much. It just got to where I was going to stick up for myself, stick up for some other guys.”

He added: “That’s the ultimate battle, right?” Schwarber said. “I’m all for umpires. I’m not against them. I’m a pro-umpire. I don’t want the electronic strike zone. I like the element of sometimes pitches don’t get called. Guys don’t receive it well or whatever it is. It’s an enjoyable part of the game. But when you have things that are getting called off the plate with really good pitching on their side, it can be harder to score. You saw on both sides that it was a harder game to score.”
