The Los Angeles Angels on Saturday recorded a dramatic win as they won a classic. The Anaheim side mustered their way into the game, and their efforts eventually paid off. They defeated the Houston Astros 13-12 through a wild play. The game was leveled in the bottom of the tenth when the Angels had two runners in scoring position. The Astros fumbled a routine double play, which cost them dearly.

It had been a topsy-turvy game. The visitors took a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh after Jose Abreu slammed a three run home run. At that moment, it looked like the game was far beyond the reach of the Angels. The team without their star man Mike Trout, was able to come back from this deficit. In the very next inning, Mike Moustakas tied the game with a three run bomb of his own.

The Astros jumped on top again as Chas McCormick launched a two-run blast to give them an 11-9 lead. Going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Angels were trailing by three runs. It was then that Shohei Ohtani stepped up. The Japanese star hit his 33rd dinger of the season to cut the gap down to two. An RBI single from Hunter Renfroe tied the game at 12-12.

An extra inning was required to decide this game then. Rookie Trey Cabbage reached first. Ohtani was intentionally walked by the Astros to bring up Taylor Ward with two outs. The batter connected on a weak drive, which should have been an easy double play. After getting the tag at second, the throw at first just went above the fielder, which left the gates wide open for Cabbage. He sprinted from second to home to walk off a classic game.

Twitter reacts as LA Angels come out on top of an all-time classic

The LA Angels have been the trending team this year. Huge credit for this goes to Shohei Ohtani. While the talks about the future regarding Ohtani continue, the Angels may have been distracted by them. The team entered the game on Saturday on a six-game losing streak, which had seen them lose their grip on the post-season race. This is something they do not want to lose, apart from Ohtani.

Various reports have suggested that the two-way megastar has become frustrated by the Angels’ performance. Though the franchise has denied reports suggesting they would trade him, they could be open to hearing offers for him. While that is completely different topic, the Angels got a much-needed win which they thoroughly deserved for their performance.

While one-in does not change the standings much, it certainly provides the Angels with a much-needed confidence boost. They are now one game behind the .500 win percentage with a 46-47 record. They have their eyes truly set on the three wild card spots as they aim to end a long playoff drought.
