There just seems to be no stopping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason. After acquiring Japanese superstars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the team has now acquired another big name. As per reports, the Dodgers have agreed on a one-year $23.5 million deal for Teoscar Hernandez.
This will be the fifth new addition to the Los Angeles franchise along with Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot. The hitter was reported to be in conversation with the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angeles. Ultimately, he decided to join the Dodgers.
After repeatedly falling short in the postseason in the past few years, the National League West champions want to avoid any more failures. The addition of Hernandez gives them more offensive options in their lineup which already includes Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.
The two-time Silver Slugger Award winner is one of the 12 players to have slammed 25 home runs in his past four seasons. His last season with the Seattle Mariners saw him hit 26 bombs across the year, showing his incredible power-hitting capabilities.
Social media reactions to Teoscar Hernandez joining LA Dodgers
It is clear that the Los Angeles Dodgers do not intend to play around next season. Despite winning the World Series in 2020, the LA-based franchise now wants to get their hand on the trophy again in a full 162-game season.
To achieve this, they have spent heavily on the market. The deals of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto saw them spend over $1 billion on two players, leading to angry reactions from the fans.
The fans are once again not pleased with them. After the team announced that Ohtani had deferred $680 million of his pay, the fans would bash the league and urged for the introduction of a salary cap.
One angry fan called the move of Hernandez as something that is “Ruining the sport“. Check out that and some more reactions to his deal from X below:
Following this deal of Hernandez, there have been reports that the Dodgers might not be adding any other position player to the team. However, with former star Cody Bellinger still up for grabs in the free-agency market, they could make one last push for him.
The pressure is more than ever on them now. Only time will tell how the seven-time World Series will perform with all these stars in their team.
