“Can’t choke in playoffs if you don’t make them” – MLB Twitter SAVAGELY trolls LA Dodgers after getting swept by SF Giants in rivalry series
After losing 7-3 to the SF Giants on Sunday, the LA Dodgers got swept in their own backyard by the hands of their arch rivals for the first time since 2012.

Over the weekend of Father’s Day when the attention was drawn towards the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry doubleheader, there was another rivalry match-up. Two big names from California, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants went against each other. Recent history was in the favor of the Dodgers. What happened was something many did not expect. The Giants swept the Dodgers in the three-game series.
The LA Dodgers have not played up to their usual standards. In a season where many big names are struggling, perhaps it is not surprising to see them struggle this year. However, what happened over the weekend was something even the most optimistic of Giants fans would have hoped. This was the first time they had swept their rivals in Dodger Stadium since 2012.
The first came of the series saw the Dodgers lose their grip late on. Going into the seventh inning the hosts were leading 4-0. Their bullpen however surrendered the lead. Following some extraordinary wild play, the Giants took the first game. In the second outing, the visitor’s stream rolled over their opponents, slamming them 15-0 to take the series.
The third game saw the SF Giants complete a rare feat. This was just their sixth sweep of the Dodgers since both teams relocated to California. The hosts were outscored 29-8, one of the worst performances in franchise-deep history. As a result of this, the Giants are now second in NL West, half a game ahead of them in the standings.
LA Dodgers under immense pressure following disappointing series sweep

The last thing one hopes to avoid in these big rivalry meetings is getting demolished. The LA Dodgers were completely outclassed by one of their worst enemies. The fans of the LA-based side have now labeled it as “karma” for their recent strange decisions. The team had invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for their pride night celebration. This led to wide protests from fans outside the stadium.
From the SF Giants’ perspective, this was the best result they could have hoped for. Not only did they humiliate their old nemesis, they also laid a dent in their postseason run. With the Arizona Diamondbacks leading the pack, the Dodgers face a likely elimination if things do not improve going forward.
Things do not get easier for Dodgers as they go up against their fellow LA natives, the Angels. The latter are in good form recently and their superstar Shohei Ohtani is red hot. A two-game series with them will be followed by a meeting with the Houston Astros. The team that has dominated the NL West in the last decade faces the daunting task of turning their season around.
