The hype around the transfer of Yoshinobu Yamamoto was huge. The Japanese star was one of the most sought-after players on the free agency market. He would later sign a huge 12-year $325 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. While there have been mixed reactions regarding his move, his Japanese teammate Lars Nootbaar does not seem too pleased with this move.
The St Louis Cardinals outfielder is one of the Team Japan stars making their mark in the MLB. The hitter has been close friends with Yamamoto and even tried his bit to convince him to join the Cardinals. Following the move of Yamamoto, he would share a hilarious reaction while suggesting he was not too happy to see him go to a National League rival.
While Nootbaar was born in America, he has represented Team Japan at the World Baseball Classic. The 26-year-old would take to his Instagram stories to congratulate Yamamoto on his move but in a hilarious way.
The outfielder would share an image of Yamamoto in a Dodgers jersey with a caption, “But really… Congrats Otouto“. What made this hilarious was he shared the image of the pitcher in a black-and-white filter with a crying emoji all while using the song, “The Sound of Silence” to describe his feelings about this move.
Dodgers VP not worried about Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s lack of MLB experience
Making a debut in any major league could be exhausting and worrying. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be one of the few players on whom the eyes of the world will be as he makes his debut in the MLB next season. Los Angeles Dodgers Vice President of Player Personnel Galen Carr though is not worried about him not having any prior MLB experience.
Yamamoto joins the Dodgers on a huge deal following another successful season in Japan. The ace pitcher was named the NPB All-Star for a third year running for his performances. While he did face some of the big names at the WBC, he is obviously yet to play in the MLB. Many have pointed out this as a disadvantage that could affect his performance.
Yamamoto had previously claimed he wanted to prove himself on a bigger stage. He now has the chance to do so when he takes to the mound as a Dodger in the 2024 season. In an interview with The Athletic, Carr explained why he feels Yamamoto will fit right in.
He’s been doing what he’s been doing for quite a while. Ever since he broke in at the top level of Japan, he’s basically been lights-out...He’s just an exceptional athlete and his raw stuff across the board is exceptional.Dodgers VP of Player Personnel Galen Carr on Yoshinobu Yamamoto through The Athletic.
Yamamoto is one of the few names who have joined the Dodgers after the 2023 MLB season. He joins his fellow Japanese star and two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani and former Tampa Bay Rays ace Tyler Glasnow as the players acquired by the seven-time World Series winner to bolster their squad for the upcoming seasons.
