There does not seem an end to the misery of the New York Yankees. Every day they continue to struggle in finding their perfect form. While sometimes the bat fails them, sometimes their pitchers let them down. On Sunday they lost another series as the Baltimore Orioles crushed them 9-3. Starting pitcher of the Yankees, Luis Severino later admitted that he feels something is wrong.

Severino who made his return in May is yet to find his form back. One of the best pitchers for the team in recent years, he is not having a good time at the mound. “Right now, I feel like I am the worst pitcher in the game, no doubt about it,” he said. This came after he gave up a career-high nine runs against the Orioles. He only lasted 3.1 innings in the game before being taken out.

He gave up two hits in the first four pitches which signaled the big night he had to face. An extra-base hit from Anthony Stander started the scoring. With the O’s leading 3-0 and two runners on base, Ryan Frazier broke the game open. A three-run home run in the first innings made things worse for Severino and the Yankees.

He recorded his first out of the game after giving up six runs. The night just went down from there as he gave up a total of 10 hits in the game. A seven-run first inning took away hopes of mounting a comeback for the Yankees. In the end, Aaron Boone’s decision to rest Aaron Judge proved costly as the team suffered another crushing defeat in the playoff race.

Baltimore Orioles claim franchise record 18 strikeouts against Yankees

One major issue for the NY Yankees this season has been offense. The team’s attack has been a lack of threat and with the absence of Aaron Judge, it was completely subdued. While their talisman has returned to action, he was rested by manager Aaron Boone as a precaution.

Once again it was proved that the team struggles without him. In their Saturday victory over the O’s, he went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run. On Sunday he was on the bench and from there he watched the drama unfold. Another stat that is now giving their fanbase a nightmare is the number of times they stuck out. The Orioles struck out 18 Yankees batters, the most in a nine-inning game in their franchise history.

In this state, Anthony Rizzo was the one with the worst number reading. He went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts. “That’s why we weren’t able to throw more crooked numbers up there – the 18, that’s a big number,” Boone admitted. How will the team overcome all of this is the big question whose answer Boone and his backroom staff has to find quickly.
