The highly anticipated clash between two leaders of the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves did not disappoint. While Freddie Freeman received a hero’s welcome back home, things got tense between two other players.

Marcell Ozuna of the Braves and Will Smith, catcher for the Dodgers, were caught in a war of words after the former “accidentally” hit the latter while batting. The position of a catcher is a risky one. The chances of getting smacked by the bat are always there.

Smith did not react because he got stuck by the bat., but because Ozuna did not apologize for this accident and instead went on a verbal war with him. The tensions between the duo led to the benches being cleared. Fortunately, no fights broke out as a result of this altercation.

The incident took place in the fourth inning of the game. Smith was so agitated by the incident as this was not the first time, Ozuna had “accidentally” hit him with the bat. Last year at the Dodger Stadium, Ozuna caught the catcher with the backswing of his bat while grounding out. Another reason for Smith being unpleased with the Braves hitter is due to the concussion he went through earlier this year.

Contacts and injuries are the most common parts of any sport. Catching your opponent off-guard usually does not become a major talking point. However, Marcell Ozuna’s backswing hit at Will Smith has not gone down well with the fans. The MLB faithful have called out Ozuna for unprofessional behavior.

Smith would later explain his frustrations and asked the Braves hitter to fix up his batting stance. “There comes a point where I need to say something there,” Will Smith said in a message he released after the game. Here are some reactions from Twitter regarding this whole scenario between Smith and Ozuna.

Speaking about the game, the Braves took an early lead in the first inning. The Dodgers came back from 4-0 down, thanks to home runs from Freeman and J.D Martinez to win the game 8-6.

The rivalry between these two sides has flared up in recent times after they meet each other in consecutive playoff rounds. The fans would be hoping for another post-season meeting between these two giants. Meanwhile, Smith would be hoping for a change in behavior from Ozuna.
