In another MLB offseason trade, utility player Nick Gordon has left the Minnesota Twins and joined the Miami Marlins. In this exchange, the American League side received relief pitcher Steven Okert.

As per reports from ESPN, this development comes after Gordon lost the arbitration case with the Twins. The outfielder was reported to earn a raise from his base salary. However, the amount he desired was not accepted by the team.

Gordon was rewarded with a salary of $900,000. The 28-year-old though was unsatisfied with this and had asked in arbitration in the region near $1.25 million. This saw the two sides got locked out and thus failed to avoid arbitration.

The son of former MLB pitcher Tom Gordon and brother of former Marlins star Dee-Strange Gordon, the utility player played as an outfielder, second baseman and shortstop last season. During the season, he batted with an average of .185, with two home runs and seven RBIs in 34 games.

On the other hand, Okert went 3-2 for the Marlins in 2023. He pitched with a 4.45 ERA through 64 relief appearances and collected 73 strikeouts.

The fans on social media were quick to throw in their reactions as Nick Gordon joined the Marlins. Usually fans throw in mixed reactions to any development. This was the similar case here as well, however, a majority of the fans seemed thrilled with this move.

One user claimed it was a “Great trade” and welcomed him with open arms while writing, “Welcome to the sunny side“. Meanwhile another user appeared to take a dig at him and wrote, “Massive Twins win“.

This is now the second straight year where the two teams have been in trade. In 2023, the Twins traded away Luis Arráez for Pablo Lopez, José Salas, and Byron Chourio. This trade worked out well for the Marlins as Arraez enjoyed a stellar season with them.

The Venezuelan international went on to become the first player in Marlins history to hit for the cycle. This impressive performances saw him being named as starting second baseman in the 2023 MLB All-Star game.

The fans will now be hoping for a similar type of performance from Gordon. The Miami-based side will return to action on February 23 when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals in their first game of the 2024 Spring training.
