As the Spring training month gets underway, teams have now increased their speed in recruitment process. On Thursday, the Miami Marlins announced the signing of former Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson on a one-year deal.

According to reports from MLB, the former American League batting champion will joins the Marlins on a $5 million deal for the 2024 season. This deal still has not been confirmed by the team due to a pending medical.

The 30-year-old American had established himself as a top member of the White Sox franchise in the past few years. However, the previous year was one to forget for him.

In the 2023 season, he managed to hit just one home run in the 123 games he played. His batting average also dropped down to .245, the lowest he has hade since the 2018 season.

The White Sox themselves did not have a great time in 2023 as they finished fourth in the AL Central with a 61-101 record. In the midst of the season in May, reports emerged that Anderson had got frustrated with the clubhouse following the team’s poor run.

In the offseason, the club declined to him the $14 million club option he was hoping for. As a result of this, Anderson became a free agent in December 2023. After weeks of speculation, the shortstop is now finally on the move and will play for the Marlins in the upcoming 2024 season.

It is no secret that Tim Anderson had a difficult season in 2023. The two-time All-star was reportedly dealing with shoulder and knee issues. This had a huge effect on his gameplay as Anderson went on to have his least productive year.

The main highlight of him turned out to be his aggressive outburst and fight with Cleveland Guardians’ star Jose Ramirez. The brawl with the third baseman did not end well for him as he quickly got knocked down and become a meme material on social media.

He will now be hoping to bounce back from this setback in 2024 with the Marlins. Speaking on the Marlins, the Miami-based team will start their Spring training campaign against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday and will be hoping for another postseason run.
