On Sunday, Japanese international star Masataka Yoshida did what everyone dreams about while playing or watching baseball. He hit two home runs in the same inning as the Boston Red Sox came back from behind to beat the Milwaukee Brewers. A player having a multi-HR game is not unusual. A player hitting two bombs in one inning is something which is rare.

He hit a go-ahead solo shot in the eighth innings. Later in the same inning, he capped it off with a 407-foot grand slam. The Red Sox scored nine runs in the inning as they blew the game wide open. The damage was done as the Brewers only managed a single run in the next inning and succumbed to a 12-5 loss.

This win helped the Red Sox take the series against the first-place Brewers. The hosts had erased a three-run lead and went into the eighth inning leading 4-3. Yoshida’s home run came after Justin Turner had leveled up the game with a solo shot of his own. This meant the Red Sox went back-to-back homers for the first time since 2021.

By accomplishing this feat, Mastaka Yoshida became the first Red Sox batter to slam two home runs in the same inning after the great “Big Papi” David Ortiz. The MLB did this so against the Texas Rangers on August 12, 2008. “I’m really honored to hit the same as a Red Sox legend,” Yoshida said in his post-match conference after he learned he had joined an exclusive company.

The Japanese star is now one of the 58 players to hit multiple home runs in the same inning and the first since Gleyber Torres of the Yankees. The second baseman hit two home runs in the eighth innings of his team’s 14-2 dominating win over the Pirates. Fans on Twitter went lost their heads over this feat by Yoshida.

Yoshida is now batting at an average of .231. With a sacrifice fly along with his two home runs, he cashed in six runs on the night. This took his RBI tally to 15 for the season. In the absence of Adam Duvall, Yoshida, and others will have to step up as they try to move up in a tight American East division this year.
