“Won’t be the end”: Matt Carpenter endures agony, stimulating a dejected spot on the Injury List

Matt Carpenter hasn’t stopped hitting the ball since The New York Yankees picked him up on May 26 after his start to the season with Triple-A team Texas Rangers. Matt has really worked on his swing over the winter, he took a .307/.414/.732 batting line with 15 home runs in 46 games into Monday’s game.
Matt Carpenter hit .176/.313/.291 with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2020-21. He has also enlightened the Yankees’ clubhouse in terms of leadership, but in T-Mobile Park, he fractured his left foot Monday night when he fouled off a Logan Gilbert slider in his first at-bat of the New York Yankees’ 9-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
Matt Carpenter was at-bat in the first innings, fouled the ball directly onto the top of his foot. Matt took a few minutes to compose himself before visiting manager Aaron Boone and one of the team’s trainers before resuming his at-bat. The next at-bat ended in a strikeout on the next pitch. He was replaced by Tim Locastro.

“I don’t want to say a number [of how long I could be out], because I just don’t know,” said Matt Carpenter. “But I’m holding out hope that it’ll be a situation where I could come back in the middle of September and can contribute towards the stretch run.”
“So, we’ll see. I mean, that’s my mindset … that I’ll be back. I’m not going to let my mind go anywhere else that I don’t want. I’m not even going to accept the fact that this will be it for me.”

Matt Carpenter, a three-time All-Star with the Cardinals has put up 15 homers and 37 RBIs in 46 games this year. Several Yankees roster members expressed the importance of a great veteran in the clubhouse.
“This guy knows a lot and we learn from him every single day,” outfielder Andrew Benintendi said. “So, I’m definitely going to miss him on the field, but he’ll be around.”
