After waiting for nearly three months, the Major League Baseball (MLB) has seen plenty of no-hitters in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Philadelphia Phillies’ Micheal Lorenzen threw the fourth no-hitter of the season. This was also the second no-no in MLB in almost two weeks following Framber Valdez’ against the Cleveland Guardians.

Lorenzen showed his dominance from the very start and commanded the pitching effort with ease. The southpaw pitched a total of 124 pitches in what was just his second start for the franchise after being traded. He is now the first Phillies pitcher to throw a no-hitter since 2015. He is also the 14th pitcher in the team’s history’ to accomplish this huge feat.

This also marked the first time that the Washington Nationals had been no-hit since their move to the capital in 2005. Lorenzen was left emotional after the game and credited his late father for his accomplishment. His historic rise this year saw him being named in the All-Star game with the Detroit Tigers. They would then trade him to the Phillies.

Twitter reacts as Michael Lorenzon throws no-hitter in second start as Phillies player

Throwing a no-hitter is not an easy task. The longer the match goes, the more pressure starts building on the shoulders of the pitchers. The fielders are themselves under immense pressure to not making a mistake. Lorenzen’ no-hitter is the fourth one recorded this season followed by Domingo German’ perfecto, the combined no-no by Tigers’ pitching trio, and Framber Valdez‘ one.

This no-hitter by Lorenzon comes at a perfect time for the Phillies. They are currently 63-52 right in the mix of another postseason run. The level of competition has increased in the National League this year as teams battle it out hard for the three wild card spots. Twitter was amazed by the achievements of Lorenzen in just his second start as a Philly and here are a few reactions regarding it.

Another interesting stat about this huge milestone is the number of games it took for him to achieve this with this new team. He is just the fifth player in MLB history and the second since 1900 to pitch a no-hitter in his home debut. Lorenzon would thank the fans for their incredible support. “Just walking out of the dugout, hearing the fans go wild, it give me the chills,” he said after the game.

The team would be hoping he can build from this start. The 31-year-old is now 7-7 for the season. In his two starts with the team, he has a low ERA of 1.06 compared to his season’ 3.48 before the start of this game. He is going to be an important figure in the Phillies rotation moving forward.
