The legend of Miguel Cabrera continues. The Detroit Tigers‘ legend is now set to make a massive U-Turn and continue to play baseball for one another season. He will now play one final season in his home country of Venezuela before finally calling it quits on the sport forever.
As per reports from Sports Illustrated, the 40-year MLB great told reporters that he would continue to play the sport for one final season. He announced that he would represent the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League during the upcoming 2024-25 season.
The last time Cabrera made his mark in this league was in the 2007-08 season. At that time he took part in seven games. Now with no MLB commitment to look forward, “Miggy” could look forward to completing one full season in front of his home crowd before he waves goodbye to baseball.
I would like to play one more year, competing, playing well, and winning with these young players. I’m going to prepare properly, plan my final season next year and make it big like it was in the U.S.Miguel Cabrera on playing another season through translation from Sports Illustrated.
Miguel Cabrera’s legendary MLB career
There is no doubt that Miguel Cabrera is one of the greatest players of this current generation. His style of play, techniques, skills, and talent made him one of the rising talents in his early years. Since then, he continued to leave the fans awestruck while achieving huge feats in the process.
Born in 1983 in Venezuela, Cabrera was fond of baseball from a young age like many others. It did not take long for Cabrera to make his mark in the MLB as he hit a walk-off home run in his debut game. Over that 2003 season, he continued to impress the audiences and won the World Series in his first try with the Florida Marlins.
In his 21-year career, he represented only two teams in Marlins and the Detroit Tigers. It was in Detroit where he would mature and lead the team from the front as a leader and an example to many. His Triple Crown achievement in 2012 is still considered one of the most impressive feats of his career.
He is currently ranked 25th on the list for the most home runs with 511 homers to his name. He finished his career with a batting average of .308 with 1,881 RBIs and 3,174 hits.
Apart from this, he was a 12-time All-Star, two-time American League MVP award winner, seven-time silver slugger winner, and four-time American League batting champion to name a few accolades. In his legendary career, Cabrera undoubtedly set standards high which the upcoming generation now has to follow.
