Miguel Rojas had to put a little extra to his efforts for the Miami Marlins on Thursday night. In order to snatch a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Miguel Rojas lost one of his teeth as Marlin’s took a 3-2 victory with them. Should players really be prepared to put out all stops?

The spectacular shortstop rookie for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oneil Cruz, attempted to steal second base after a walk. Miguel Rojas only went town to tag the rookie before he got to the base, Oneil Cruz had an awkward slip and his feet got stuck right before the bag. The feet caused a fiddly pop up for Cruz and he smacked Rojas in the face with his helmet.

As the impact took place, Miguel Rojas couldn’t help himself and took a few steps back, hanging onto his mouth. The broadcast showed a slow-motion replay of the incident and even Oneil Cruz couldn’t help himself from making a compassionate expression. The replay showed Rojas’ tooth fly out and drop on the diamond.

“With a new fake tooth and a few stitches ready to go today. I’m feeling much better today, thank you all for keeping me on ur thoughts,” Rojas tweeted, while quoting the video of the incident.

Miguel Rojas was able to send Oneil Cruz to the dugout despite his unexpected dental extraction. “He actually knocked a tooth not out but broke half of it off,” manager Don Mattingly said after the game, according to MLB.com. “They found it and he’s at the dentist now, so we’ll see where that goes.”

Although Rojas was taken out of the game after the collision, the Miami Marlins didn’t let his efforts go to waste. Miami went on to win the contest in the 11th inning off of Brian Anderson’s walk-off Triple.

“Hanging in there, and that’s what we talk about,” manager Don Mattingly added, according to MLB.com. “Just keep fighting up until the [All-Star] break.”
