Watch: Mike Clevinger’s rib-tickling trade, negotiates a BASEBALL for a BEER from a fan in Miami

Mike Clevinger

Mike Clevinger and San Diego Padres are in Miami for their game against the Miami Marlins, and definitely the team was busy in the pregame warmups, but Clevinger’s effort needed something more that just water. The thirst satisfaction drink was visible in the stands in the hands of a Padre fan.

Yes!! It was a BEER can. Mike Clevinger tossed a practice ball towards a fan asking him to trade the ball for a beer. After Clevinger handed over the ball to the fan, he then received his can of beer, which he tucked into his back pocket for safe keeping. Although it is said that the fans attending would do any trade for a baseball but Mike Clevinger’s entertaining trade was hilarious.

Mike Clevinger is back after being out for all of 2021 recovering from Tommy John surgery. So far this season, he’s 4-4 with a 3.47 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 14 appearances (13 starts). Clevinger has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five starts and he is definitely enjoying his time back on the field.

“This is the second time we’ve been very disappointed with him,” Mike Clevinger told reporters. “You hope he grows up and learns from this and learns that it’s about more than just him right now. It would be nice to have somebody else, but we don’t need anybody else. We’ve got everyone we need right here.”

“He hasn’t been part of the team all year,” Manny Machado said, potential National League MVP. “We’ve gotten to this point so far without him. We were waiting to get him back and hopefully be a spark plug for the team.”

“We have the guys to get where we want to be,” Machado added. “Obviously, with the trade deadline what we did there, we reinforced the team and made the team a lot better.

“We still have the same goal, which is to try and make a World Series and bring a championship to San Diego. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”
