“F**king Hooligans” When MLB handed out 8 suspensions in the wild Pirates-Reds brawl
MLB brawl 2019
Back in 2019, MLB came down with some strictness against the acts which were displayed in the game between Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. Reds pitcher Amir Garrett thought of himself as HULK and charged the Pirates dugout trying to fight their entire team.
The MLB World was left staggering, the MLB organization issued 8 suspensions the next afternoon. Reds’ manager David Bell was slapped with a six-game ban. MLB cited Bell’s return to the field following his ejection, escalating the incident with aggressive actions.
“The incidents between these two clubs remain a source of concern, and it’s reflected by the level of discipline we are handing out today,” MLB Chief Baseball Officer Joe Torre said in a release announcing eight multi-game suspensions.
“Everyone on the field should be aware of the example they are setting for fans, particularly young people. I firmly expect these two managers and all others to hold their players accountable for appropriate conduct and to guide them in the right direction.”
Get to know- MLB suspended who all and for how many games
Amir Garret was not the one who received a suspension for the most games, surprisingly, it was Pirates pitcher Keone Kela got a 10-game ban for intentionally throwing at Derek Dietrich’s head in the seventh inning. Was the thirst of getting back at each other that bad that one would easily pitch at another’s head?
MLB issued pitcher Amir Garrett an eight-game suspension, manager David Bell received a six-game suspension, pitcher Jared Hughes was suspended for three games and former Reds’ outfielder Yasiel Puig received a three-game suspension.
On the other hand, Pirates, reliever Keone Kela was given a 10-game suspension, infielder José Osuna received a five-game suspension, Kyle Crick got three games and manager Clint Hurdle was suspended for two games.
“I came to the field eight days and I was useless,” Garrett said when he returned from the ban as if none of the above happened. “It’s very tough to watch my team compete without me. I love being here. I love being around these guys. I love going to battle with them every single day. We’re still in it.
